Zents Goes 5-for-5, Big Seventh Leads to Sweep

Javelinas begin LSC play 4-0

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Baseball) – A windy Sunday gave hitters the edge as Nolan Ryan Field featured three total home runs and a big seventh inning for Texas A&M University-Kingsville (16-7, 4-0 LSC) as the Javelinas began Lone Star Conference play 4-0 with the 12-10 victory over #RV Tarleton State University (16-12, 0-4 LSC) Sunday afternoon at Nolan Ryan Field.

Levi Zents went 5-for-5 with three RBI and two runs and five other hitters registered multiple hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A scoreless first for Zach Wilson was rewarded by Jimmy Roche, who gave TAMUK a 1-0 lead with a solo shot in the bottom frame.

Tarleton State tied the game in the top of the second but Dallas Stefano began the bottom half of the inning with a double down the right field line. Moments later, Alex Gonzalez singled up the middle to give Kingsville the 2-1 lead.

The Texans tied it again in the third on an RBI triple but again, A&M-Kingsville regained the lead, scoring three runs on four hits in the bottom of the inning. Hunter Perkins and Zents led off with back-to-back singles and Pablo Hernandez doubled to right center to plate two. Later in the frame, Tim Gleinser drove in the inning's third run.

TSU scored two runs in the fourth to cut it to 5-4 TAMUK before adding three in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 8-5 lead.

Zents' single in the sixth cut it to 8-6 but the Texans tacked on another in the seventh for a three-run cushion.

However, the Javelinas batted around in the seventh, scoring six runs on four hits to take a 12-9 lead. The highlight was Zents' two-run double.

The Texans threatened in the ninth with the tying run on second base but the damage was limited as A&M-Kingsville swept the series and began LSC play 4-0 with the 12-10 victory.

WIN-LOSS RECORD
Hunter Lehman (1-0) tossed 4.0 innings in relief and picked up the victory. Trey Taylor tossed a scoreless frame. Eli McLane (0-2) allowed five runs in 1.2 innings of work to pick up the loss.

INSIDE THE BOX
Croft finished 3-for-6 with an RBI, Roche added three runs scored and two hits and Perkins picked up two runs and two hits. Hernandez drove in two and tallied two hits and Gonzalez collected two hits from the nine-hole.
