Softball Threatens but Falls in Opener

Javelinas host A&M-Commerce tomorrow for double dip beginning at 1 p.m.

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Softball) – Lauren Oatman and Victoria Schoonard-Saborio picked up a double apiece in Texas A&M University-Kingsville's (14-16, 6-9 LSC) 6-2 series opening loss to Texas A&M University-Commerce (22-9, 9-4 LSC) Friday evening at Vernie & Blanche Hubert Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A&M-Commerce got on the board first with a two out solo shot by Kinsie Hebler in the opening frame.

A delayed first innings ended in a tough way for the Hogs with an inning ending double play as runners were stranded on second and third.

Carlie Clark settled down but a single to left brought home two Lions to extend TAMUC's lead to 3-0 in the fourth.

The Javelinas struck back in the bottom frame with a run on Oatman's double as Haley Boyett, who led off the inning with a single, scored from third to cut it to 3-1. Alexei Gonzalez followed with a single to bring home Oatman and make it a one-run ballgame.

The Hogs threatened in the fifth with the bases juiced but were unable to capitalize, heading into the final two innings down one run.

A&M-Commerce scored three runs in the sixth to tack onto its lead, 6-2.

WIN-LOSS RECORD
Clark fell to 1-4 on the year after allowing six runs – five earned – in 5.2 innings. Kinsie Hebler (6-1) picked up the victory with 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the Lions.
