KINGSVILLE, Texas (Baseball) – Zach Wilson put on a show on the mound for the Javelinas, tossing a season-high 8.2 innings with 10 strikeouts to give No. 25 Texas A&M University-Kingsville (12-7) the series finale over Cameron University (18-7), 3-2, Sunday afternoon at Nolan Ryan Field.
Wilson allowed just six hits and threw 127 pitches to improve to 2-1 on the year. The Hogs had four players register multi-hit contests, led by
Tim Gleinser's 3-for-4 performance with a triple and RBI.
Alex Gonzalez,
Dallas Stefano and
Christian Caudle each went 2-for-4.
HOW THEY SCORED
A leadoff triple by Gleinser got the Hogs started in the bottom of the second and the third baseman came around to score on Gonzalez's bunt single.
An inning later,
Hunter Perkins showed off the wheels with an infield single and gave TAMUK a 2-0 cushion, rounding third on a throwing error while Cameron attempted to turn two.
The score remained 2-0 Kingsville until the seventh when Stefano led off the bottom frame with a double and was plated by Gleinser's single up the middle for a three-run lead.
Cameron scored two in the ninth but
Tyler Crouch shut the door in the ninth, recording the final out to pick up the 3-2 win for A&M-Kingsville.
Travis Geiser made an outstanding grab in the right-center field gap to clinch the win.
WIN-LOSS RECORD
Wilson's 10 punchouts tied his season-high and the junior right-hander went 8.2 innings in the win. The two runs in the ninth for the Aggies did not show just how dominant the senior was as Wilson allowed just three hits prior to the final frame.
Crouch picked up his second save of the season.
Gaige Vines (2-2) was charged with the loss after allowing two runs – one earned – in 4.1 innings. The Javelinas tagged the right-hander for seven hits.
