Jako Kelm tossed 4.0 shutout innings out of the bullpen to lead the Javelinas to a 5-4 victory over #RV Tarleton State University (16-9, 0-1 LSC) Friday evening at Nolan Ryan Field.
Jimmy Roche's single up the middle,
Pablo Hernandez drove in two and an error plated a third run on the single and
Levi Zents capped off the frame with an opposite field single.
Defense was big down the stretch with Zents and Roche highlighting a good showing.
Christian Caudle finished 3-for-3 with a walk and Zents added two hits.
HOW THEY SCORED
Tarleton State began with a run in the first but TAMUK followed with five runs to take a 5-1 lead. The Texans added one in the third and two in the fifth but the Javelina bullpen shut the door as southpaw
Jako Kelm struck out four in relief.
WIN-LOSS RECORD
Seth Hubert improved to 4-1 after striking out three in 5.0 innings of work. Kelm punched out four in 4.0 innings to pick up his first save of the season. Nathan Hickey (3-2) was hit with the loss after allowing five runs – four earned – in 1.1 innings.
