Payne Tosses Gem to Down Javelinas

Javelina bats silenced for second straight day by Buffs pitching

CANYON, Texas (Baseball) – Two big innings and another solid effort from the #15/21 West Texas A&M Buffaloes pitching staff led them to a 7-0 shutout victory over the #10/#15 Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas on Saturday afternoon at Wilder Park.

With the win, WTAMU improves to 14-2 while TAMUK drops its second straight to fall to 11-2.

In his finest outing of the season, WT's senior pitcher Joshua Payne (3-1) went over six innings for the first time this season. Payne allowed just two hits and one walk over nine innings while fanning 16 Javelinas along the way.

West Texas A&M scored five runs in the 2nd and added two in the 7th inning. The top three hitters in the Buffs lineup (Jimmy Cubillos, Nick Canas, Adam Adkins) combined to go 5-10 with five RBI's and three runs scored. WT also scored three unearned runs in the game, capitalizing on three fielding mistakes by the Hogs.

Seth Hubert (3-1) got the start for TAMUK and took his first loss of the season. He logged six innings on the hill, surrendering five runs (four earned), five hits, permitting three free passes, and striking out six batters. Trey Taylor and Jako Kelm threw an inning a piece and combined to give up just three hits and no earned runs.

Joshua Croft picked up his sixth double of the season in the top of the 3rd. Dallas Stefano went 1-3 in the contest.
