Game 1
In the morning game of day three, Gillespie, Haley Boyett and Longoria recorded hits for Texas A&M-Kingsville against Lubbock Christian. Breanna Smith (1-1) picked up her first loss of the season after pitching six innings, striking out one batter per inning. Monique Garza improved her record to 4-1 and tossed a complete game.
The Javelinas drew first blood in the game against the Lady Chaparrals after Longoria singled to left field to score Gillespie in the third inning. LCU's bats were hot late though as they scored six unanswered runs with five of them coming in the final two innings to top TAMUK 6-1.
Game 2
The Hogs did not have better luck in game two as the No.5 Muleriders jumped out to a 7-0 lead through four innings. Lindsey Angelico reached on a fielding error that plated Sarah Gilbert in the fifth inning for an unearned run, but a double from Abbie Dow sent two players from Southern Arkansas across home plate in the bottom of the fifth to end the game for a 9-1 run-rule victory.
Boyett and Angelico had the only hits for the Blue and Gold and it was not the bullpen's best performance with zero strikeouts. Randa Hatter (1-1) was charged with the loss, while Victoria Taylor (5-0) remains unbeaten in the young season.Â
Texas A&M-Kingsville will prepare for it's Lone Star Conference series opener at Angelo State on February 17-18 at Mayer Field.
