GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Softball) – In its lone game of the day, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (3-0) handled Northwestern Oklahoma State University (2-5) 6-3 Saturday, day two of the North Texas Softball Bash at Jennifer McFalls Park.
Sarah Gilbert (1-0) dominated inside of the circle for her first win of the season. The junior tossed a complete game and struck out six batters, while Madison Garza (1-3) was credited the loss after pitching four full innings for Northwestern Oklahoma State.
Roxy Chapa kept her hitting streak alive (14 games) with a .750 batting average, including a double in the fourth inning to score two runners. Rachael Longoria went a perfect 2-of-2 at the dish and touched home plate three times to lead the team in runs scored. Alexei Gonzalez hit a double to left center an inning earlier than Chapa that crossed the 2016 All-American and Haley Boyett. Victoria Schoonard-Saborio and Sydney Andrews both had one hit in the win.
The Javelinas cruised offensively to start the game as they scored all six of their runs by the fourth inning. The defense played like champs by holding the Rangers to two hits with no runs through six innings and was one out away from back-to-back shutout games. With runners on the corners and two outs down, Megan Sanders hit a three-run shot to put NWOS on the board, avoiding a scoreless game. The next batter popped up to Gilbert to end the game.
TAMUK will face its toughest tasks of the tournament tomorrow as they face Lubbock Christian (10-1) at 10 a.m. before matching up against No. 5 Southern Arkansas State (5-1) at 12:30 p.m.
