KINGSVILLE, Texas (Volleyball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (9-1, 1-0 LSC) ran through Western New Mexico University (6-4, 0-1 LSC) 25-16, 25-16, 25-13 in the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court Friday to begin Lone Star Conference competition.
The Hogs handled business convincingly, hitting .354 as a team and holding the Mustangs to .140. Krystal Faison registered another double-double this season with ten kills and digs and also added three service aces. Ashley Bukowski had eight kills and two blocks and both she and Faison hit over .400 in the match. Lexi Wick and Madison Brabham each gathered six kills and Brabham had a team high of three blocks. The conductor, Casey Klobedans, had 28 assists, six digs and two kills, while libero Krystal Puente led with 15 digs and added two aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
The Javelinas dominated by leading the entire match outside of being tied 1-1 in the first set. WNMU could not find a rhythm, hitting -.033 on 11 errors. Faison led the club with four kills and six digs and Wick followed with three kills and one block. Kingsville took the first set easily 25-16.
Set 2
Brabham took control in the second set with a team high four kills and two blocks to lead TAMUK in a 25-16 victory. The Mustangs could not break the Javs serves and surrendered seven aces in the route. Faison and Taliah Phipps each had two aces, while Klobedans, Wick and Puente each added one. Freshmen Kelby Sprinkles also got in on the action with two kills on three strikes including the final point of the set.
Set 3
The Blue and Gold had a near flawless third set after accumulating 13 kills with no errors and a hitting percentage of .464 to close out the Mustangs in straight sets. The Hogs took the third stanza 25-13 behind Bukowski's five kills on six attempts and a service ace. Faison followed the senior with three kills, and Wick with two. Both Faison and Wick also tallied an ace.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Javelinas will return to the SPEC tomorrow for their second conference match of the weekend against Eastern New Mexico University (4-5, 0-0 LSC) at 2 p.m.
