KINGSVILLE, Texas (Baseball) – No. 25/16 Texas A&M University-Kingsville (23-10) fell to No. 18/27 St. Edward's University (25-9), 14-1, Tuesday evening at Nolan Ryan Field.
Jimmy Roche and
Pablo Hernandez went 1-for-2 and
Trey Taylor tossed 2.0 innings.
The Hilltoppers struck first in the leadoff inning but the Javelinas responded with a run of their own on Roche's RBI single, plating
Hayden Vesely, who reached on an error. After a scoreless second, St. Edward's tacked on four runs in the third for a 5-1 lead.
SEU added three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 10-1 edge. St. Edward's scored four in the sixth to take the first of two scheduled meetings between the two programs, 14-1.
Vesely and
Peyton Gesinger recorded base knocks for the Hogs.
Taylor picked up a no-decision after getting the starting nod for the Hogs. The sophomore right-hander struck out three in 2.0 innings.
Kyle Black threw a scoreless seventh for the Javelinas.
Donovan Lewis (0-1) was hit with the loss and Bryce Davis (1-2) earned his first win of the season after starting the game for the Hilltoppers.
The Javelinas resume Lone Star Conference play this weekend at Cameron. Texas A&M-Kingsville is atop the conference standings by one game.
