KINGSVILLE, Texas (Baseball) –
The first Lone Star Conference series came to a close Sunday afternoon at Nolan Ryan Field and Texas A&M University-Kingsville (10-4, 3-1 LSC) mounted a late comeback that allowed the Javelinas to nearly sweep No. 10/24 Cameron University (12-3, 1-3 LSC) as the Aggies ultimately defeated the Hogs 7-3.

Trailing 3-0 heading into the sixth, Dalton Perry tripled down the left field line to plate Brayton Carlson, who led off the bottom frame with a walk, and Hayden Vesely followed with an RBI single to cut TAMUK's deficit to one. With two outs, an error allowed the Javelinas to knot the game up at 3-3.

Vesely finished 2-for-3 from the plate and struck out seven in 6.0 innings of work, but ended his afternoon with a no-decision. Jako Kelm (2-2) was charged with the loss and Logan Fanning (2-0) earned the victory after going 4.0 innings, allowing three hits and an unearned run.

With the series victory, the Javelinas have a shot at being ranked nationally in the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) Poll, which will be released midweek.

The win streak hit 10 games for the Javelinas and Vesely has now recorded a base hit in 10 consecutive games. Perry and Vesely have reached base safely in 13 straight contests and 12 consecutive games, respectively.

Zach Smith went 2-for-4 and Jimmy Roche was 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Cameron scored three runs in the third and the Javelinas tacked on three in the sixth. The Aggies scored three in the eighth and added an insurance run in the ninth to take the final game, 7-3.

The Javelinas head to Angelo State University next week to continue Lone Star Conference play.
