Baseball Scores Six in Sixth in 10-9 Setback

Almaguer went 2-for-4 with three RBI

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Baseball) –
Down 7-2 in the sixth, the Javelinas stormed back, putting up a six spot in the frame but the home team was able to take game one as #RV Angelo State University (12-6, 5-0 LSC) defeated #RV/28 Texas A&M University-Kingsville (10-5, 3-2 LSC), 10-9, Friday evening at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.

Ruben Almaguer finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and Pablo Hernandez blasted a solo shot. Dalton Perry and Hayden Vesely have now reached base safely in 13 consecutive games.

An error got things started as Vesely reached on Paxton DeLaGarza's miscue and came around to score on Almaguer's double to give the Hogs a 1-0 lead in the first. TAMUK tacked on a run in the second on back-to-back hits by Miles Holcomb (double) and Christian Caudle (RBI single).

The Rams tied the game in the third and took a scored a run in the fourth and four in the fifth to head into the latter third of the ballgame with a 7-2 lead.

Texas A&M-Kingsville answered back with six runs on four hits, the dagger coming off the bat of Almaguer, who's two-run single to left center field gave the Javelinas a 8-7 lead. Zach Smith and Brayton Carlson collected RBI singles in the inning.

Angelo State regained its lead with three runs in the sixth, but the Javelinas cut their deficit to two with Hernandez's leadoff home run in the seventh.

The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Live stats, audio and video will be available.
