Baseball Scores Four in Ninth to Walk-Off in Style

Roche and Vesely finish with two hits apiece.

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Baseball) – It wasn't pretty but the Javelina offense exploded for four runs in the ninth, capped off by Hayden Vesely's walk-off single as #RV/30 Texas A&M University- Kingsville (13-6) defeated Our Lady of the Lake University (13-14), 4-3, Tuesday afternoon at Nolan Ryan Field.

The tying run was on second base after a two-out, two-run double by pinch hitter Ruben Almaguer.  The ensuing batter Jimmy Roche tripled to tie the game at 3-3. With the game winning run 90 feet away, Vesely singled to complete the four run inning as the Hogs secured the victory.

Tuesday's tilt was the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Saints scored a run in the first, added one in the second and took a three-run lead with a run in the fourth.

Lance Elling tossed a scoreless seventh and eighth for the Hogs, tallying four strikeouts. Also receiving action on the mound for the Javelinas were Michael Box, Donovan Lewis, Brady Bippert and Hunter Lehman. Lehman (2-1) earned the victory and Jesus Ramirez (1-3) was tagged with the loss.

The tying run came to the plate for Texas A&M-Kingsville after Brayton Carlson reached second and Alex Kana reached on a hit by pitch to begin the ninth.

The Saints struck first scoring a run in the opening inning, and tacked on one in the second and one in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.

That would remain the score until TAMUK's crooked number in the ninth to secure the victory in front of its home crowd.

Roche and Vesley finished with two hits apiece.

The Javelinas resume Lone Star Conference play this weekend at Eastern New Mexico.
