Late Rally Seals Aggie Victory

Javelinas led by three with 5:22 left in the fourth



LAWTON, Okla. (Women's Basketball) –
Texas A&M University-Kingsville (5-20, 0-15 LSC) led for most of the game and carried a two-possession lead into the fourth period but the Javelinas fell to Cameron University (13-10, 7-7 LSC), 64-58, Saturday afternoon at Aggie Gym.
 
The Javelinas led by four with 8:10 remaining in the ballgame and by a point at the 5:12 mark of the fourth, but Cameron closed the game draining 5-of-6 from the foul line in the final 1:16 of the game to seal the season sweep over the Hogs.
 
Kyra Bauer and Kaylin Roher shined for the Javelinas, combining for 32 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Bauer finished with a team-high 17 points on 5-10 shooting and 7-9 from the charity stripe and the senior added eight rebounds, six on the offensive end, two assists and two steals in the final away contest of her collegiate career. Roher went 5-8 from three-point range to finish with 15 points.
 
Bauer scored seven of her points in the first quarter as Texas A&M-Kingsville closed the opening period with a 16-15 lead. A slow second period allowed Cameron to head into the half with a 31-25 edge. Bauer went 5-8 in the first half for 14 points, leading all scorers in the first half.
 
The second half began with the Javelinas connecting on all cylinders, coming out to a sizzling 64.3 percent shooting as Kingsville went plus-11 in the third period to head into the final quarter of regulation with a 51-46 advantage. Roher connected on all three of her triples in the stanza, leading all scorers with nine points in the period. Kaylee Kana added seven points in the third for the Hogs.
 
The Javelinas scored seven unanswered between the 3:49 and 1:44 marks in the third to jump out to an eight-point lead.
 
The Aggies were able to knot the game up at 54 with 3:44 remaining and a three-pointer by Brandi Gomez gave the home team their first lead since the 5:54 mark in the third.
 
Moments later, Bauer drained both of her free throws to make it a one-possession game with 1:14 remaining and the Aggies were clutch from the charity stripe to take their homecoming game, 64-58.
 
Charro Montgomery led all players with 19 points on 6-10 shooting and Montgomery added four assists, four rebounds and three steals. Dayla Threatt finished with 13 points and six rebounds.
 
The Javelinas close out the season at home, hosting Angelo State University Saturday, Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m. Prior to the game, Bauer and Ashley Viera will be honored in a pregame ceremony as the two seniors will be playing in their final collegiate games.
