HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
The Hoggies came out ready to play from the beginning as they jumped out to a 9-4 lead over the reigning LSC champs to force an early timeout. However, the Belles battled their way back by taking the lead 19-17 thanks to a 15-8 tear. From then on, ASU retained the lead and won the first set 25-22. Faison led the Hogs with six kills followed by Wick and Brabham who finished the set with three kills each.
Set 2
The second stanza was just as intense as the first, as it featured seven ties and six lead changes. Texas A&M-Kingsville was plagued by 12 attacking errors and Angelo State pulled away late after ending the set on a 9-4 run, winning the set 25-19 and taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3
Despite falling behind 11-2 early in set No. 3, four Belle errors contributed to the Hogs seven unanswered points to cut into the deficit. Moments later, TAMUK captured the lead 17-16 after a big block from Hutchinson and Brabham. The lead was short lived though after consecutive attack errors put ASU back in the drivers seat and ultimately took the set 25-21 to advance to the semifinals. Wick had a set high of 6.5 points behind four kills and two blocks and was trailed by senior Valarie Hill who registered three kills and one block.
