Hogs End Regular Season on Five-Match Win Streak

The Javelinas will participate in the LSC Volleyball Championships hosted by Angelo State University beginning Thursday, November 17

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Volleyball) –  Texas A&M University-Kingsville (25-8, 14-6 LSC) handled its business against Cameron University (3-26, 1-19 LSC) on Saturday afternoon in the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center to close out the 2016 regular season.

By defeating the Aggies, the Blue and Gold recorded their fifth season-series sweep of 2016 (West Texas A&M, UT Permian Basin, Western New Mexico, Midwestern State and Cameron) and swept both MSU and CU in six straight sets. They have only lost one set in the last five matches as they now enter the Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championships.

The Javelinas hit .358 as a unit and dominated defensively with eight total blocks verses the Aggies one. It was a special day for our seniors as Ashley Bukowski became the ninth Hog in program history to reach 1,000 career kills after finding the floor nine times in Saturday's match. Valarie Hill registered ten digs, six kills and an ace against Cameron, while Alexandria Wells had a career-high of four kills and added two blocks in her final match in front of the home crowd. Krystal Faison concluded the regular season with her 17th double-double after team-highs of 15 kills and 11 digs to go along with her two blocks and service ace. Lexi Wick finished with eight kills and a team-high of five finger waves, followed by an efficient Madison Brabham who had a .636 hitting percentage and seven kills. Casey Klobedans directed the offense with 42 assists while also doing some dirty work of her own with three kills and a team-leading two aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1

The Javelinas was down early 6-3, until a 5-0 run thrusted them into the drivers seat, 8-6. They kept the momentum for the remainder of the set and won 25-15. Senior Hill and junior Faison set the pace with five kills each. Wick had four kills in the set, while Wells concluded with three kills.

Set 2

The Hogs opened set No.2 with a commanding 12-5 lead as they continued to dominate the Aggies en rout to a 25-12 set win. Faison had the hot hand as she recorded seven kills in the second stanza and Wells was responsible for the final point which also established a new career-high for the senior in kills.

Set 3

With TAMUK leading 15-11, CU fought back and went on a 5-1 run to tie the set at 16. However, it did not hold up against the Hogs offense as they regained the lead after a kill and ace from Wick and an attacking error committed by the Aggies. The Hogs ended the third frame on a 5-0 run and took the set 25-19. Bukowski registered seven kills to capture 1,000 kills and Brabham was next with four kills.
