KINGSVILLE, Texas (Volleyball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (21-8, 10-6 LSC) split the day after falling in a tough match against No. 10 Angelo State University (24-2, 15-1 LSC) and bouncing back with a sweep against Texas A&M International University (2-20, 2-9 Heartland Conference) in the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center Tuesday night.
In the first match of the day, the Javelinas fell in straight sets to the nationally-ranked Rambelles. Each match came down to the very end but the Javs was not able to get over the hump. Madison Brabham led the team with nine kills and also added two blocks. Krystal Faison was next in line with eight kills and Ashley Bukowski gathered six kills. They both finished with 12 digs.Lexi Wick and Haley Hutchinson both concluded the match with a team-high of three blocks and also collected five and four kills, respectively. Casey Klobedans had 18 assists and Taliah Phipps had 12 assists with a team-high of two service aces. Â
Texas A&M-Kingsville recorded its tenth sweep of the season after rolling over Texas A&M International to improve to 21-8 in 2016. In those three sets, the club had a sideout percentage of 66. Wick dominated in this match with a .519 hitting percentage and 16 kills to lead the team. The middle tied Bukowski with two service aces and also tied Hutchinson with three total blocks who also added seven kills. Faison finished with six kills, Brabham with five kills and Valarie Hill wrapped up the night with a four-kill performance against the Dustdevils. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
The Hogs opened the match strong by jumping out to an early 9-4 lead to force an Rambelle timeout. Out of the timeout, ASU went on its own 9-4 run to tie the set at 13. The set stayed close, but with the score tied at 20, ASU ends on a 5-2 run to take the first set 25-22. Faison, Hutchinson and Brabham ended with three kills each.
Set 2
Angelo led wire-to-wire and won the set No. 2 25-21 behind five team blocks. Bukowski led the way with four kills, followed by Faison with three kills.Â
Set 3
The Javelinas battled in the third set but it was not enough in the end as they fell to the Belles 25-22. With the Hogs leading 22-21, ASU scored four straight points on two kills and two errors. Brabham played big in the set with five kills and one block.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
The Hogs went to work early and established a 13-5 lead over the Dustdevils in the opening frame. They never let off the gas and won the first set 25-12 behind a strong seven points by Wick who had four kills, two aces and one solo block. Faison also had four kills while Hutchinson and Brabham each had three kills.
Set 2
The Javelinas had to grind in the second stanza with the Dustdevils leading halfway through the set 16-13. TAMUK then changed gears and took a 17-16 lead sparked by a couple of kills from Faison. The home team led late 22-19 and ultimately won the set 25-20. Wick continued to shine in the set with a high of five kills and Hill made her presence known with three kills.
Set 3
TAMIU opened set No. 3 with a 5-1 lead that was quickly erased as the Hogs uncorked an 11-5 run to go ahead 12-10. The Hogs began to pull away late with a 21-16 lead and won the final set 25-20. Wick was unstoppable again with seven kills in this set with no errors. Hutchinson was next with three kills and Brabham followed with two kills.
WHAT'S NEXT
Texas A&M-Kingsville will have its final road trip of the regular season this weekend. They will travel to Canyon, Texas for a match against West Texas A&M on Friday and then head down to Odessa, Texas to see UT Permian Basin on Saturday.
