SAN ANGELO, Texas (Volleyball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (12-5, 3-3 LSC) moves to .500 in conference play after nearly upsetting No. 13 Angelo State University (14-2, 5-1 LSC) on Saturday at the Junel Center.
Krystal Faison had another double-double performance with 13 kills and 18 digs and added one ace and one block. Lexi Wick was behind her with 12 kills and tied Madison Brabham with four total blocks who also registered seven kills and 15 digs. Valarie Hill and Krystal Puente both set season highs in the match with seven kills and 23 digs, respectively, and Casey Klobedans finished with 42 assists, one ace and one kill.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
ASU started the match strong and led throughout the entire first set. Faison and Sprinkles each recorded two kills in the opening set, while Wick added one.
Set 2
TAMUK started with an early lead before ASU scored five straight points to hold a 7-3 lead. Down 15-10, Hill and Wick found the floor followed by an attack error by the Belles that gave the Hogs some momentum. Hill later struck again with two kills to cut into the deficit, making the score 17-15. Towards the end of the set, Angelo State committed two attacking errors and Faison went on a personal tangent with three kills to tie the set at 22. Both clubs traded points, but two costly errors gave the Rambelles the second set win 25-23. Faison recorded five kills and one block in the set followed by Hill who put down three kills.
Set 3
The third stanza began with ASU on an 8-3 run, but four consecutive errors by the home team kept the Hogs alive in the set. Kingsville capitalized by taking a 13-12 lead after back-to-back kills from Faison and Brabham, followed by a service ace from Klobedans. The Javs expanded their lead 20-15 and stood firm when ASU went on a 4-0 run to trim their lead to 20-18. The Hogs pulled out the win 25-20 after two attacking errors by Mallory Blauser ended the set.
Set 4
Wick was phenomenal in set No. 4 with four early kills to put the Hoggies ahead 10-7. Both teams had their share of runs the set that featured five ties but ASU overcame after kills from Abbie Lynn and Brianna Sotello. Wick finished the set with eight kills followed by Hutchinson and Faison who each tallied three kills.
WHAT'S NEXT
Texas A&M-Kingsville returns home on October 7 to play against West Texas A&M University in its annual Dig Pink match. The first 250 spectators will receive a pink rally towel and 100 free taquitos coupons from Whataburger will be handed out.
