KINGSVILLE, Texas (Men's Basketball) – Troy Jones posted his second double-double of the season with 17 points and a season-high 12 rebounds in Texas A&M University-Kingsville's (9-8, 1-5 LSC) 73-65 loss to Cameron University (12-7, 5-2 LSC) Saturday evening at the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
Jones went 7-10 from the free throw line and five rebounds came on the offensive end.
DJ Weathers added 16 points and four assists,
Cris Boleware scored 10 points and recorded five assists and three steals and
Will West punched in 10 points.
The Javelinas and Aggies were tied at 28 with Jones providing most of the offensive punch with 10 points. The senior forward went 4-4 from the charity stripe in the opening period and added seven rebounds in 13 minutes of action. Boleware dished four assists in the first half and recorded two steals and a three-pointer.
Trailing by six early in the stanza, Boleware capped off a Javelina run with an old fashioned three-point play as TAMUK regained a one-point lead with 14:40 left to play.
The Javelinas were able to extend their lead to six on West's three with 7:41 remaining, but the Aggies returned the favor and took a two-point lead with 4:40 left. Cameron took a seven point cushion with 2:32 left to play and Jones responded with a second chance bucket to cut CU's edge to five. However, Kingsville was unable to come back as one of the conference's hottest teams was able to continue its winning streak and the Aggies have now defeated A&M-Commerce, No. 11 Angelo State and the Javelinas in consecutive games.
The Javelinas close out the first half of LSC play at Angelo State on Saturday, Jan. 30.
