SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Volleyball) – Sophomore outside hitter
Krystal Faison recorded her team leading ninth double-double of the season in Texas A&M-Kingsville's 3-0 sweep (26-24, 25-22, 25-21) of St. Mary's Tuesday night in Bill Greehey Arena. Faison finished the contest with 15 kills and 16 digs.
The Javelinas improved to 8-7 on the season while the Rattlers dropped to 3-10.
Along with Faison,
Valarie Moehrig reached double figures in kills with 10.
Casey Klobedans led the squad with a .385 attack percentage and fell just short of a double-double with 38 assists and nine digs.
Brett Zaccardo posted a match best 18 digs and
Abbey Wells set a new season high with 13 digs. Leading the contest with four blocks, two of them solo, was
Madison Brabham. Both
Haley Hutchinson and Klobedans finished with three rejections each.
TAMUK jumped out to a 10-5 following a kill by Faison in the opening stanza. STMU was able to cut their deficit to one but three straight points started with a kill from Hutchinson put the Blue and Gold back in front by four.
A kill streak from the Rattlers put them in front late 23-22. An
Ashley Bukowski kill started a 4-1 run for the Javelinas to close out the set.
Moehrig posted a kill that gave TAMUK an early 4-2 advantage in the second set. However, the home team responded by taking 10 of the next 12 points to go up by six. The Hogs fought back to take a 17-16 advantage on a kill by Moehrig but the Rattlers responded with three straight points to go back ahead.
The Javelinas were able to tie the match 21-21 following one of three service aces from
Ashley Bukowski. Four of the final five points of were won by the Blue and Gold thanks to kills courtesy of Bukowski, Hutchinson and Klobedans.
While STMU jumped out to a 6-3 advantage, TAMUK answered back with an 8-1 burst that was capped off with a solo Klobedans block to take the lead for good.
The Blue and Gold are back home for two tough home matches this weekend. They host 24th-ranked Angelo State Friday night at 7 p.m. and follow with a 2 p.m. Saturday contest against the defending Lone Star Conference Tournament Champions Tarleton State.
