The Blue and Gold have suffered 12 straight defeats to the Lady Buffs

CANYON, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team (0-20, 0-10 LSC) fell 81-57 Saturday afternoon in the First United Bank Center to No. 7/6 West Texas A&M (18-2, 9-1 LSC). Of the 14 players seeing action for the Javelinas, 12 of them scored with a team-high 15 points coming from Micah Weaver.

Opening the game by scoring 19 of the first 24 points was the Lady Buffs. Ashley Viera scored the first points for the Blue and Gold at the 16:36 mark on an old-fashion three-point play while Kyra Bauer hit a layup a little over two minutes later.

The closest TAMUK got was 11 after two made free throws courtesy of Tessa Ramirez. WT eventually stretched their advantage to 46-23 at halftime.

Five straight points by Weaver to open the second period forced a Lady Buff timeout with only 65 seconds off the clock.

After maintaining a lead of around 20 points for the first seven minutes, WT went on a 16-5 run to take a 30-point advantage for their largest of the game.

Ramirez added seven points off the bench, going 4-for-5 at the charity stripe. Demmee Rodriguez set new career-highs with six points and four steals while making all four of her free throw attempts. Leading the team with seven rebounds was Lauren Jay.

The Blue and Gold return to the court Wednesday at 7 p.m. on the road against Texas Woman's.
