SAN ANGELO, Texas (Men's Basketball) –
In a potential first round matchup in next week's Lone Star Conference Championships, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (8-18, 3-11 LSC) concluded its regular season with a 88-70 loss to No. 15/13 Angelo State University (24-4, 11-3 LSC) on Saturday evening at the Junell Center.

Duan Wright scored a team-high 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting and added six rebounds and three steals and DJ Weathers and Jamar Goodwin scored 15 and 12, respectively.

The Javelinas jumped out to a 10-3 lead, but a 12-2 run by ASU allowed the nationally-ranked Rams to take a 15-12 lead edge with 13:44 remaining in the first. Moments later, Austen Bradshaw connected on a triple to give the Hogs a one-point lead at the 11:42 mark of the opening half. A second run gave the Rams momentum towards the latter portion of the half and a 10-point lead with 3:57 remaining.

TAMUK closed out the first half scoring eight unanswered points, holding the Rams scoreless through the final 2:57 of the stanza to head into halftime trailing by four, 39-35. Goodwin scored 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting and added three rebounds and Wright posted eight points and five boards.

A 9-0 run by the Hogs cut their deficit from 10 down to just one with 14:55 remaining in the game, and after Angelo State hit one-of-two from the charity stripe, Weathers' jumper at the 14:12 mark tied the contest at 47-all. ASU took the lead on free throws and did not give it up, going up by as much as 14 with 5:05 left to play. The Javelinas and Rams traded points back and forth in the closing minutes, but Angelo was able to earn the regular season series sweep over the Hogs, defeating TAMUK, 88-70.

With the loss, Texas A&M-Kingsville closed out the 2014-15 regular season 8-18 overall and 3-11 in LSC play, while the Rams went 24-4 overall and 11-3 in league action. If the LSC playoffs began tomorrow, these two teams would meet in the first round on Wednesday, March 4 at the Allen Event Center.
