KINGSVILLE, Texas – In their final home game of the 2014-15 season, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team (0-24, 0-14 LSC) fell 78-65 to Cameron (14-9, 11-3 LSC) in Gil H. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court on Wednesday. Javelina seniors
Lauren Jay and
Tonje Milde were honored for their contribution to the program prior to the game.
The Aggies opened the game with a three-pointer, one of 13 they made in the contest.
Four straight points from the Blue and Gold courtesy of jumpers by
Micah Weaver and Jay put them in front. It was the only time they were ahead all game and lasted just 10 seconds following another CU trey.
TAMUK cut the deficit to one twice with the last time coming at the 15:41 mark, 11-10, on a Weaver jumper.
A 32-7 run by the Aggies sealed the game for them with just over four minutes remaining in the first half. The Javelinas kept fighting and scored 14 of the final 18 points of the half to cut the discrepancy to 17 at intermission.
CU maintained a double-digit lead the entire second half. Twice TAMUK pulled to within 13 during the period. The first time came with a little over three minutes off the clock at 54-41 while the last occurrence came on a jumper by Weaver for the final basket of the contest.
Weaver led all scorers with a career-high 20 points, the first Javelina to reach the mark this season, on 10-of-15 shooting. She also set career bests in assists and blocks with five and three, respectively.
Jay added 13 points in her final home contest of her collegiate career and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Fellow classmate Milde scored two points and retrieved a board in 10 minutes of action.
The Blue and Gold shot 46.7 percent (28-of-60) from the field while going 5-for-9 (55.6 percent) from downtown.
Next up for TAMUK is a road trip to No. 24 Midwestern State Saturday afternoon.
