COMMERCE, Texas (Men's Basketball) – It was a tale of two halves for Texas A&M University-Kingsville (7-15, 2-8 LSC), with the Javelinas shooting an outstanding 52 percent from the field, but ultimately, A&M-Commerce (17-6, 5-5 LSC) overcame a slow start to defeat TAMUK, 83-74, on Thursday evening at the Field House.

Texas A&M-Kingsville went 14-of-26 from three-point range but the Lions' 60.7 percent shooting in the second half allowed A&M-Commerce to rally from behind and sweep the Javelinas. In the loss, Jamar Goodwin finished with 17 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists and Duan Wright added 16 points. Jordan Jahr and Will West scored 13 points apiece with West going 5-of-6 from the floor.

Texas A&M-Kingsville's sizzling start gave the Javelinas a nine-point lead at the half, 44-35. The Hogs shot 51.6 percent from the floor and 64.3 percent from three-point range. Goodwin led all players with 12 first-half points, nine coming from behind-the-arc, while West provided 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting off the bench. Goodwin and Don Thomas each registered two steals and combined for five assists. Free throws kept the Lions close as A&M-Commerce went 16-of-17 from the charity stripe in the opening half to offset the fierce Javelina defense.

However, the Lions came out firing in the second half and rode a 9-0 run to tie the game at 44 with 18:00 left to play in the game. Jordan Jahr answered back with a three-pointer of his own to give the Hogs a three-point lead with 16:53 remaining, but TAMUC responded with another triple for the game's third tie. Jahr went back-to-back, draining his third from long distance for another TAMUK lead.

Commerce took its first lead of the second half with 11:29 remaining in the game after scoring five unanswered and continued to hold the Hogs scoreless until the 8:41 mark. The hot shooting continued with A&M-Commerce going 13-of-18 to begin the second half for an eight-point lead with 6:15 left to play. Texas A&M-Kingsville cooled off in the second half, shooting just 32.4 percent in the loss.

Darrell Williams registered yet another double-double with game-highs of 21 points and 12 rebounds and two other Lions reached double figures. The Lions shot 50 percent from the field and pulled down 41 rebounds.

The Javelinas return to Kingsville Hampton Inn Court for their final two home games of the season. Texas A&M-Kingsville takes on nationally-ranked Tarleton State University on Christus Spohn Night, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. Prior to the men's game, the women host the TexAnns at 6 p.m. in the Play4Kay game and all fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.
