Faison Records Double-Double at Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Outside hitter Krystal Faison recorded her 17th double-double of the season in the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team's setback to Lone Star Conference leading Tarleton State 3-1 (25-11, 25-18, 21-25, 25-18) Saturday afternoon in Wisdom Gym. The sophomore finished the match with 13 kills and 12 digs.

The Javelinas are now 18-13 on the season and 7-7 in conference play while the TexAnns improved to 23-5 overall and 13-1 in the LSC.

Adding 11 kills and a team-high .421 attack percentage was Madison Brabham. Casey Klobedans was credited with a match best 39 assists and led the Blue and Gold with five blocks.

Freshman Haley Hutchinson registered four blocks, all assisted, to give her 92 block assists for the year. She is now one shy of tying Karen Grote (1988) for sixth on the school's single-season list.

Brett Zaccardo tallied a match-high 16 digs and Ashley Bukowski contributed 10 digs.

TAMUK held Hailey Roberts, the nation's top offensive player, to 13 kills. However, Kenya Alexander stepped up to tally 13 kills with a .600 hitting percentage and 11 blocks.

Set one began with TSU taking an early 3-1 advantage. The Javelinas responded by taking four of the next five points to go ahead by one. The TexAnns answered back with seven straight points to take control of the stanza for good.

A block and kill from Brabham allowed the Blue and Gold to go up 3-2 in the second. TSU won the next two points and maintained the advantage the rest of the set.

TAMUK came out on fire in the third and never trailed the entire stanza. The Javelinas won the first six points behind two kills and blocks from Hutchinson. The Blue and Gold finished the set with 13 kills and a .226 attack percentage and held the TexAnns to 10 kills and a .054 attack percentage.

Valarie Moehrig recorded a kill to tie the fourth stanza 2-2. TSU followed with a 3-1 run to go in front for good. The closest TAMUK would get was four, 15-11, after an attack error by Roberts.

The Javelinas return home to the Gil H. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court on Friday for a 7 p.m. match against Eastern New Mexico.
