STEPHENVILLE, Texas (Men's Basketball) – The Javelinas shot 50 percent from three-point range and connected on 16-of-20 free throws to improve to 4-1 in 2015-16 with a 82-65 victory over Ouachita Baptist University (1-4) on Friday evening in Wisdom Gym on the campus of Tarleton State University.
Texas A&M University-Kingsville featured four players in double figures with
Jamar Goodwin leading the way with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting. The senior added four rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block and connected on three from behind-the-arc.
Troy Jones finished with 13 points and six rebounds, four offensive.
Cris Boleware added 10 points, four assists and a steal and
Tim Singleton and
Marcus Frazier combined for 18 points, three assists and two steals off the bench.
The Javelina bench scored 23 of the 41 first-half points as TAMUK went into the half with a 41-35 lead. Singleton scored eight of his 10 points in the opening frame and Goodwin recorded six points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals in the opening stanza.
The Hogs came out firing in the second half and scored the first nine points to extend their lead to 15 with 17:44 remaining. The double-digit lead remained for the rest of the game as Texas A&M-Kingsville was able to dominate its way to a 82-65 victory over the Tigers.
With the win, the Javelinas are now 4-1 for the first time since 2009-10 when the Hogs began the season with three wins and won 10 of their first 12 games.
Aitor Lopez-Breton finished with a double-double for Ouachita Baptist (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Allen Buchanan came off the bench to provide 13 points. The Tigers went just 2-of-16 from three-point range to fall to 1-4 on the year.
Day two of the Tarleton State University Thanksgiving Classic concludes tomorrow and the Javelinas will draw Colorado State University-Pueblo at 5 p.m. Live stats will be available for the game. The ThunderWolves upset the No. 1 team in the nation, Tarleton State, 87-84, in overtime. Javelina fans may have seen CSU-Pueblo go 2-0 in the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Men's Basketball Tip-Off Challenge to begin the 2015-16 season.
