KINGSVILE, Texas (Men's Basketball) – A sluggish start allowed the Buffs to take a commanding double digit lead on Saturday afternoon as Texas A&M University-Kingsville (6-10, 1-3 LSC) shot 50 percent from three-point range in a 71-52 loss to West Texas A&M University (11-6, 2-2 LSC) at the Gil H. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.

In the win, the Buffaloes dished out 21 assists on 25 made field goals and guard Miles Gatewood nearly posted a triple-double, finishing with a game-high 17 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three blocks. David Chavlovich and Tez Dumars added 15 points and 13 points, respectively.

Don Thomas each scored 11 points to lead Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Facing an uphill battle after a double digit deficit early (down 18-0), the Javelinas mounted a 11-3 run, highlighted by scoring seven unanswered points to cut their deficit to 10 with 10:05 remaining. Goodwin came off the bench to provide eight crucial points and
Brandon Etienne dished out three assists but Texas A&M-Kingsville entered the half trailing 33-22.

Gatewood concluded the opening frame with eight points, six rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Tommy Gove led all first half scorers with nine points.

The Buffs continued their hot shooting, going on a 16-5 run to open the second half and take a commanding 49-27 lead with 15:43 left. Finishing the half with nine three-pointers, WT scored 45 of its 71 points from behind-the-arc.

The Javelinas head to Cameron University for a 7:30 p.m. tilt on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. before returning to Kingsville Hampton Inn Court for Coaches vs. Cancer Weekend against Midwestern State on Jan. 24 at 6 p.m.
