Jay and Weaver Record Four Steals Apiece as @TAMUKWBB Falls to TexAnns

Javelinas made 44.2 percent of their shots, their highest percentage in a road game this season

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Both Lauren Jay and Micah Weaver were credited with four steals each in Texas A&M-Kingsville's (0-13, 0-3 LSC) 67-57 setback at Tarleton State (8-3, 2-1 LSC) Saturday night in Wisdom Gym. Weaver's steal total set a new career-high while Jay's matched her career best.

The Javelinas fell behind by seven nearly six minutes into the game. Alexis Copeland hit a jumper at the 12:51 mark to start an 8-0 run capped off by a layup by Weaver 2:08 later.

Both teams stayed within three points of each other until the Blue and Gold scored eight straight to go ahead 31-23. During the scoring stretch, Jay tallied half of the squad's points. A three-pointer by the TexAnns' Raven McGrath at the buzzer cut TAMUK's halftime lead to 30-26.

Following a jumper by Jay with 18:22 showing on the clock, TSU went on a 19-2 run to take control of the game.

The Javelinas fought back to pull to within 51-49 after Jay went 1-for-2 at the free throw line. Nine of the next 11 points went for TSU. TAMUK stayed within single-digits until two late free throws by the TexAnns for the final points of the game.

Weaver paced the Blue and Gold with 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting while Jay added 13 points and blocked two shots for the third straight game. Ashley Viera dished out a game-high four assists.

On the glass, Ope Ibrahim grabbed a team-high seven rebounds off the bench and Kyra Bauer retrieved six as well. Three rejections by Ruby Robertson set a new career-high for her.

TAMUK made 44.2 percent (23-for-52) of their field goal attempts, the second highest this season. But they were only 2-of-7 on threes and 9-for-13 at the charity stripe.

Wednesday sees the Blue and Gold make the long trip to take on Eastern New Mexico at 6:30 p.m. CT in Greyhound Arena.
