KINGSVILLE, Texas (Volleyball) – The Texas A&M University-Kingsville women's volleyball team (10-4, 3-3, LSC) will be on the road this weekend after a three victory week at home. The Javelinas play Cameron University on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. and Midwestern State on Oct. 4 at 2 p.m.
Currently, the Aggies are 6-7 overall, while the Mustangs are 5-9. Both teams are 1-5 in Lone Star Conference play.
Kingsville sits atop the LSC in blocking averaging 2.50. The Hoggies are ranked second in hitting with .257, and first in service aces, averaging 1.46. The Javelina women are third in the conference in kills per set averaging 11.94 per set this season.
LSC Defensive Player of the Week
Brett Zaccardo will be a huge asset to the Javelinas going into this weekend. This season, the freshman has amassed 234 digs, averaging 2.34 a set. Kingsville has several other players who are producing big number this season.
Kelsey Washington has added more kills to her career total which stands at 1,134 kills.
Stephanie Johns has been an immovable object on the front row with her blocking. So far, Johns has accounted for 50 blocks this season, averaging 1.02 a set.
Casey Klobedans is leading the team in assists averaging 9.40.
Cameron is led by Kat Evans, who is ninth in the LSC with 2.75 kills a set, and setter Ingrid Boatman. Boatman is eighth in the league with 6.23 assists a set. Defensively, Christina Viera leads the defense with 3.69 digs a set and is ninth in the LSC.
Midwestern is third in the LSC in service aces per set as a team with 1.25. Defensively, the Mustangs are fourth in the conference with 17.00 digs per set. Individually, Leah Lychock is sixth the league in aces with .35 and Nicole Marzik is 10th in the conference with 3.33 digs per set. Sarah Rosinke sets the offense up averaging 8.13 assists.
