KINGSVILLE, Texas (Volleyball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (17-11, 6-8 LSC) concludes the 2014 regular season inside the friendly confines of the Gil H. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court as the Javelinas host Midwestern State University (9-19, 3-12 LSC) on El Dorado Night, Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. and Cameron University (12-14, 4-11 LSC) on Mike Shaw Automotive Senior Day, Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m.
"It is important that we finish the regular season playing at a high level," said fourth-year head coach
Tanya Allen. "While it is late in the season, we are still continuing to emphasize improvement with every rep."
The Javelinas went 3-1 overall last week, capping off the four-game week nearly upsetting Texas Woman's University before falling in five sets.
Casey Klobedans surpassed 40 assists three times this week and finished the four-game week with 172 assists, eight service aces and two double-doubles. At TWU, she finished with 60 assists and 21 digs.
Stephanie Johns posted 17 blocks in the four games, concluding the week with 14 blocks against LSC foes A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's University. She finished with four solo blocks and 13 assisted and ranks second all-time in school history in assisted blocks.
Krystal Faison posted three double-doubles, reaching double figures in kills in the week's final three games, including 16 at Texas Woman's.
Prior to Saturday's slate, seniors
Ashley Tipps,
Sarah Fountain, Johns and
Kelsey Washington will be honored for their contributions to the volleyball program.
"These seniors are very special to me. They were my first recruiting class here at TAMUK (with the addition of Tipps) and I am extremely proud of all four of them."
The Blue and Gold defeated MSU, 3-2, in their previous meeting in Wichita Falls (Oct. 4). Texas A&M-Kingsville registered 74 team kills and 90 digs, led by
Ashley Bukowski's 20 kills, 11 digs and three assisted blocks. Washington posted 15 kills, 22 digs and two assisted blocks and Klobedans was five assists away from the single game record as the freshman recorded 61 assists and added eight digs and seven kills on 12 attempts.
Shaquinn Parker finished with 15 kills, six total blocks and a game-high .394 attack percentage. The Aggies squeaked past Kingsville in straight sets on Nov. 3.
