Javelina Take 3-1 Win over LSC No. 2 Tarleton State

KINGSVILLE, Texas – A back-and-forth battle between the Texas A&M-Kingsville and Tarleton State volleyball teams ended with a huge four-game victory (25-21, 19-25, 25-19, ) for the Javelinas at the Kingsville Hampton Inn Court Friday night.

In the first set of the match, The Javelinas (14-11, 6-9) held the Texans (20-6,13-3) to a .093 hitting average, both of Tarleton State’s outside hitters had negative percentages.

Tarleton State responded quickly in the second set with 14 kills and only two errors compared to the Javelinas 13 kills and five hitting errors. The Texans took the set, 25-19.

The Javelinas regained control of the match with a 25-19 win, holding Tarleton State to a .194 hitting average. Their momentum carried through the fourth set.

The fourth and final game was a close battle for the Javelinas, but they came out on top, 25-22. Texas A&M-Kingsville held the Texans to just a .185 hitting average. This match marks the Javelinas second four-game match win of the season.

Sophomore Kelsey Washington, an outside hitter, led the team with a season high of 21 digs in a four-game match. Libero Kalinda Graves followed close behind with 20 digs. Several Javelinas had double digits in kills. Dedra Brown, the junior transfer, led the team with 13 kills, followed by Kelsee Felux and Stephanie Johns with 11 kills and Washington with 10 kills. Sophomore Sarah Fountain also had a big game with 42 assists and seven kills.

The team’s last home game of the season is slated for Saturday at 1 p.m. They will honor the four seniors Lakeshia Craft, Kalinda Graves, Ali Insell and Cady Mercer before the match.
