PORTALES, NM - In its final game of the regular season, the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team did not fork over a win to Eastern New Mexico. The battle ended in a 3-2 (21-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-14, 15-10) victory for the Javelinas Saturday afternoon.??
The Zias (6-24, 1-19) took a stunning 2-0 lead, out hitting the Javelinas (17-13, 9-11) with a .378 average in the first set.??
The Javelinas battled back winning the third set, 25-22, and carried their momentum through to take the fourth and fifth sets, keeping the Zias under the 20-point mark in the fourth set. A&M-Kingsville held Eastern New Mexico to a negative average in those final two sets.??
Several Javelinas set personal bests during the match. Setter Sarah Fountain had her first career triple-double in kills (11), digs (11), and assists (51). Fountain's 11 kills is also a career high. Freshman Kelsee Felux led the team over Eastern New Mexico with a career-high of 16 kills. Bethany Friesenhahn had 12 kills and Dedra Brown with 10, contributing to the teams total 66 kills.??
After this match, senior Ali Insell has played in more than 400 sets during her career. The Javelinas finish the season 17-13 overall and 9-11 in the Lone Star Conference. They will next play in the Lone Star Conference Tournament later this week in San Angelo.
