Javelinas Dealt Three Set Loss at MSU

WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS – Difficulties away from home continued to plague the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team on Saturday afternoon when they lost 25-19, 25-10, 31-29 at Lone Star Conference rival Midwestern State.

The Mustangs (15-9, 7-8) used an effective attack to thwart the Javelinas (12-12, 5-11). They easily won the first two sets and posted a .583 attack percentage in the second set. In the third set, the two teams went back-and-forth with the Mustangs finally pulling out the victory six points into extra play.

The Javelinas posted 39 kills, 50 digs, 5.0 team blocks and a .163 attack percentage in the match. Junior libero Ali Insell (The Woodlands/The Woodlands HS) was the team’s best player on the day with 24 digs to lead all players and set a new personal record for a three-set match. Kelsey Washington (Cuero/Cuero HS) was the team’s leading attacker with nine kills while Sondra Cui (Schertz/Steele HS) dished out a team high 21 assists.

The Mustangs had 50 kills, 54 digs, six service aces and a .347 attack percentage. The duo of Caitlin Wallace and Miranda Byrd were nearly unstoppable as Wallace had 11 kills and a .611 attack percentage and Byrd had 10 kills and a .600 attack percentage. Kristan Aduddell and Kimberly Jeffrey combined for 42 assists while Kiara Jordan led the defense with 18 digs.

The Javelinas are back in action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at home against Huston-Tillotson. It is Christus Spohn Hospital Kleberg “Dig Pink” Night. All fans wearing pink will be admitted free to the match.
