RICHARDSON, TEXAS – For the second time this season, Texas A&M-Kingsville sophomore post Victoria Gonzalez was named the Lone Star Conference South Division Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Gonzalez was a dominant defensive presence in the Javelinas’ two games last week at Eastern New Mexico and at home against Incarnate Word. As a team, the Hoggies limited their opponents to 34.4 percent shooting as Gonzalez blocked four shots in each game. She also averaged 11.0 rebounds per game, including 7.0 defensive rebounds per game. She posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds in at Eastern New Mexico and led the team with nine rebounds against Incarnate Word.
Gonzalez and the Javelinas play host to LSC South rival Angelo State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. on IBC Bank “Pack the House” Night.
