Javelinas Fall in Oklahoma

  EDMOND, OKLAHOMA – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s basketball team could not overcome the fast start of Central Oklahoma as they lost 100-81 on the road in Lone Star Conference action on Tuesday night.  (box score)

The Bronchos (8-3) scored the first eight points of the game and led 19-4 after just four minutes of action.  Midway through the first half the score was 33-14 as the Bronchos hit six three-pointers.  UCO took a 52-36 lead into halftime.

The Javelinas (10-3) still trailed by 19 points with 12:45 left in the game when they went on a 17-4 run to pull to within six points after a three-pointer by Kayla Naylor (Corpus Christi/Calallen HS) with 8:15 remaining.

The Bronchos quickly went on a 7-0 run to make the score 80-67, but once again the Javelinas closed to six points with 5:16 remaining on a layup by Reagan Sutton (Portland/Pusch Ridge Christian HS).  The Hoggies were unable to get any closer the rest of the way.

The Javelinas were led by Nikki Thering (Spring/Oak Ridge HS) who scored a career high 17 points as she drained four three-pointers in just 17 minutes of action.  Naylor added 13 points and six assists while Ursula Hill (Cypress/Cy-Ridge HS) had 10 points and eight assists.  Rochelle Ikeni (Fresno, CA/Roosevelt HS) had 11 points while Dyana Bullinger (Spring/Klein HS) had nine points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

The Javelinas shot 44.6 percent from the field, made 12-of-34 three-pointers and were 11-for-22 from the foul line.  They had 35 rebounds and committed 19 turnovers.

The Bronchos had six players score in double figures.  Jordan Stark led the way with 16 points and five rebounds.  Rose Anderson and Savannah Hamilton each scored 14 points while Christina Yarbrough dished out eight assists.  They shot 47.8 percent from the field, made 12-of-30 three-pointers and were 24-for-35 from the foul line.  They had 43 rebounds and only 14 turnovers.

The Javelinas are back in action on Thursday night at Cameron University at 6 o’clock.
