Javs Finally Stopped

  DENTON, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team finally saw its perfect run come to an end on Friday afternoon when they dropped a 25-13, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22 match to Harding University at the Texas Woman’s University Tournament at Kitty Magee Arena.

The Javelinas (6-1) struggled on the attack for most of the match with .000, .200 and .044 attack percentages in the first, second and fourth sets, respectively.  In the third set, the club posted a .500 attack with 18 kills against just one attack error.

The Lady Bison (5-2) easily won the first set.  In the second set, the Hoggies led 15-12 before the Bison went on an 11-2 run to win 25-20.  In the fourth set the two teams were tied 19-19 before Harding pulled out the win.

The Javelinas finished the match with a .176 attack.  Middle blockers Kristin Chancellor (Bellville/Bellville HS) and Amanda Waclawczyk (Poth/Poth HS) led the Hoggie attack.  Chancellor had 14 kills and a .321 attack while Waclawczyk had 13 kills and a .458 attack.

Senior Tara Grier (Poth/Poth HS) nearly recorded her second straight triple-double for the Javelinas with 11 kills, 15 assists and eight digs.  Senior setter Kirby Krueger (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) led the team in both assists (33) and digs (15).

The Lady Bison were led by Manuela Nesheva and Sarah Phipps who had 18 and 13 kills, respectively.  The Bison posted a .219 attack with just 16 attack errors.  Jessica Heimrich directed the attack with 42 assists and 12 digs.  Emily Tate had a match high 23 digs and was deadly on the serve with five aces.

The Javelinas are back in action on Saturday with matches against Washburn at 9:30 in the morning and Southern Arkansas at 2:30 p.m.  Each match will have live stats available on the TWU Tournament page at http://www.twuathletics.com/sports/2009/8/27/VB_0827095337.aspx?id=103.
