TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s basketball team had some of the wind taken out of their sails on Thursday night at Northeastern State in a 72-51 loss at Dobbins Field House. (box score)
The Javelinas (7-2) entered the game averaging over 87 points per game, including three games of at least 100 points. On Thursday, the team was held to 51 points as they shot 37.0 percent from the field and made only 6-of-19 three-pointers.
The Riverhawks (7-3) did not shoot much better than the Javelinas, but used 20 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second chance to better the visitors. They out rebounded the Javelinas 50-31on the night and made 11 three-pointers in the game.
The Javelinas were led by senior point guard Kayla Naylor (Corpus Christi/Calallen HS) who had 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor, including a 3-of-4 three-point performance. She also had three assists and four steals in the game. No other Hoggie had more than six points in the game. Felicia Soza (Beeville/A.C. Jones HS) led the team with seven rebounds while Victoria Gonzalez (Hidalgo/Hidalgo HS) added three blocks.
The Riverhawks were led by Jessica White who had 17 points, six rebounds and five three-pointers. Cristy Nitz added eight points and nine rebounds.
The Javelinas are back in action on December 19 against Southeastern Oklahoma at home at 2 o’clock.
