Jennies Top Javelinas

WARRENSBURG, MISSOURI – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s basketball team dropped a 76-59 decision at Central Missouri on Friday afternoon at the UCM Multi-Purpose Building.

A 15-2 run over the final 7:38 of the first half proved to be the difference in the game as the Jennies (2-0) never let the Javelinas (1-1) get closer than 14 points in the second half.

The Jennies were efficient from the floor connecting on 32-of-65 shots from the field.  They dished out 26 assists and committed only eight turnovers in the game.  They pulled down 14 more rebounds than the Hoggies.  The only areas they struggled in were three-point shooting, 27.8 percent and free throw shooting, 43.8 percent.

Deidra Dace led the team with 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds.  Rebecca Roberts pumped in 12 points in 12 minutes off the bench and Danielle Shows just missed a double-double with 10 rebounds, nine points and six assists.

The Javelinas shot a solid 41.8 percent from the field, but it was not good enough.  Felicia Soza (Beeville/A.C. Jones HS) led the team with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor despite missing the last few days due to illness.  Rochelle Ikeni (Fresno, CA/Roosevelt HS) added six points and a team high six rebounds.

The Javelinas will play Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday at noon to conclude their tournament experience.
