Javelinas Knock Off Aggies

  KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team picked up their first Lone Star Conference victory of the season on Thursday night against Cameron University at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court by a score of 26-24, 25-21, 25-17.  (box score)

The Javelinas (11-9, 1-4) matched their 2008 season win total with the victory.  They won two hard fought sets and then they easily won the third set by posting a .452 attack.  The first set featured 11 ties and the second set had six ties.

The Hoggies were led by sophomore Jess Morris (Goliad/Goliad HS).  She pounded out a team high 13 kills and had 13 digs.  It was her second double-double of the season and she also posted a .345 attack percentage.  Senior Tara Grier (Poth/Poth HS) had 25 assists, 14 digs and eight kills without an attack error.

Javelina senior middle blocker Kristin Chancellor (Bellville/Bellville HS) led the Javelinas with nine blocks and she added six kills while her sister Casey had seven kills and five blocks.

The Javelinas had 45 kills in the match and finished with a .295 attack percentage.

The Aggies (13-7, 1-3) were led by Adrienne Lawson and Nikita Abbott.  Lawsone had 12 kills and a .310 attack while Abbott added 13 kills.  Laura Ellerbrock finished the 38 assists, three aces and seven digs.

The Javelinas are back in action on Saturday at two o’clock against LSC rival Midwestern State.
