Hoggies Win Eighth Straight

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team tied a school record on Thursday night when they won their eighth straight match of the season, a 3-0 sweep of visiting Lone Star Conference rival Eastern New Mexico at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. (box score)

The Javelinas (17-9, 6-4) matched the school record for consecutive wins that was set during the 1998 season. The final score of the match was 25-21, 25-16, 25-19.

The Hoggies were solid throughout the match as the posted attack percentages of at least .245 in each set and finished the night with a .270 attack on 41 kills. Senior Tara Grier (Poth/Poth HS) led the way with her third triple-double of the season. She led the team with 11 kills, 15 assists, 10 digs and a .308 attack.

Sha Tramble (Houston/Clear Brook HS) and Amanda Waclawczyk (Poth/Poth HS) were each efficient on the attack with only one attack error apiece. Tramble finished with 10 kills, nine digs and a .391 attack. Waclawczyk added six kills, two blocks and a .312 attack.

Kirby Krueger (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) led the Javelina attack with 24 assists while contributing eight digs. Virginia Hernandez (Katy/Katy HS) led the defense with 11 digs.

The Zias (5-21, 0-11) came out of the gates strong and led 17-13 in the first set before the Javelinas took over. They had 17 kills and a .286 attack in the first set, but just 20 kills the rest of the way. Rocio Ovalle led the team with 12 kills. Sarah Koch added eight kills and a .381 attack. Grace Brandt led the team with 25 assists and added 10 digs. Caitlin Murphy led all players with 20 digs.

The Javelinas play their final home match of the season on Saturday against #6 West Texas A&M at 2 o’clock. All fans that wear a costume or bring a toy to donate to Toys for Tots will be admitted free. The Javelinas will be observing Senior Day after the match.
