DENTON, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team went on the road to Texas Woman’s University on Thursday and lost a 25-12, 25-18, 25-18 decision at Kitty Magee Arena. (box score)
The Javelinas (3-10, 1-2) opened the Lone Star Conference schedule with two home matches and were on the road within the conference for the first time against the Pioneers (10-5, 3-0). Unfortunately, the Javs did not play their best match and lost in three straight sets.
Kingsville freshman Casey Chancellor (Bellville/Bellville HS) was the team’s most successful attacker with five kills and a .400 attack percentage. Junior Kirby Krueger (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) and freshman Courtney Attebery (Houston/Cypress Springs HS) dished out 13 and 12 assists, respectively. Senior Shaday Smith (Houston/Jones HS) led the team with eight kills while sophomore Virginia Hernandez (Katy/Katy HS) tallied 14 digs.
TWU used an explosive attack and excellent defense to down the Javelinas. Katie King and Sharon Schaffner each had 14 kills and were a major reason why the Pioneers had a .248 attack. Jessica Crow led all played with 32 assists. Schaffner recorded a double-double as she also led all players with 19 digs.
The Javelinas hope to get back on a winning track on Saturday when they travel to Texas A&M-Commerce for a 2 o’clock start time.
