Javs Dropped in Five

Sha Tramble  LAWTON, TEXAS – It was a tough road trip for the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team.  First, the Javelinas lost in five sets at Midwestern State and then on Saturday the team dropped another five-setter at Cameron University in Lone Star Conference play.  (box score)
The Aggies (11-9, 3-4) won the match 25-27, 31-29, 14-25, 25-20, 15-13.  Cameron was able to respond after getting pounded in the third set to even the match at two sets apiece with a win in the fourth.  That set the stage for a dramatic fifth set.
The Javelinas (7-14, 3-6) jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the deciding set and were ahead 8-6 when the teams switched sides.  The Aggies scored four straight points and six of the next seven to take a 12-9 lead.  The Hoggies battled back and pulled to within 13-12 after a Kristin Chancellor (Bellville/Bellville HS) service ace.  After a side out to the Aggies, Shaday Smith (Houston/Jones HS) and Amanda Waclawczyk (Poth/Poth HS) blocked Whitney Long’s attack making the score 14-13.  On the next rally, Long would make good on her second chance to win the match as she picked up the winning kill.
The Javelinas posted a higher attack percentage than the Aggies, .205-.136 and registered 16.0 total blocks while the Cameron only had 7.0.  Unfortunately for the Hoggies, a match is not decided by total points, but by sets won.
Kingsville sophomore Sha Tramble (Houston/Clear Brook HS) led all players with a season high 21 kills and a .311 attack.  Chancellor added 15 kills and seven blocks while Waclawczyk added a .385 attack and seven blocks.  Casey Chancellor (Bellville/Bellville HS) had a career high seven blocks.  Junior Kirby Krueger (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) directed the offense with 36 assists while sophomore Virginia Hernandez (Katy/Katy HS) led the defense with 26 digs.
The Aggies had four players with at least 10 kills.  Malyssa Acton led the team with 17 kills while Long had 14 kills and a .226 attack.  Lindsay Paziuk posted the only double-double of the match with 15 kills and 15 digs.  Laura Ellerbrock had 45 assists while Haley Hatch contributed 23 digs.
The Javelinas are back in action on Thursday night against LSC rival East Central at 7 o’clock.  The match can be viewed online at http://www.teamline.cc/teampage?teamcode=7836 and will have live stats available at http://www.javelinaathletics.com/livestats/vball/xlive/xlive.htm.
