Tahlequah, Okla. – Felicia Soza (Beeville) scored 20 points and the Javelinas shot a season-high 58 percent from the field, but Northeastern State took the game over in the final 10 minutes to beat Texas A&M-Kingsville 81-72 at Jack Dobbins Fieldhouse. Click here for stats.
The loss dropped the Javelinas to 4-8 while Riverhawks won their fourth straight game to improve to 7-7.
Soza made 6-of-10 shots overall including 5-of-6 3-point shots to lead A&M-Kingsville. Lana Toki came off the bench to score a season-high 19 points, LaKeisha Jones had 13 points, and Kayla Naylor (Calallen) had eight assists and four steals, but the Javelinas committed 22 turnovers while Northeastern State had just 12.
A&M-Kingsville trailed by as many as nine points in the first half, but closed the first 20 minutes on a 5-0 run with Naylor hitting three free throws with 35 seconds left to tie the game at 35 going into intermission.
The Javelinas hung with the Riverhawks for the first 10 minutes of the second half, trailing just two, 54-42, but Northeastern State put together a 9-3 run to grab a 65-55 lead and A&M-Kingsville would get no closer than five points the rest of the game.
A&M-Kingsville shot over 63 percent from the floor in the second half, out-rebounded the Riverhawks 29-24, but Northeastern State made 12 of 28 3-point shots and dished out 24 assists out of 29 baskets made.
The Javelinas will continue their roadtrip Saturday afternoon at Central Oklahoma.
