Jason Gonzales is the longest current tenured coach for Texas A&M-Kingsville after being hired in 2008 as the third head baseball coach in program history
His 492 wins makes him the all-time winningest coach in Javelina history across all sports. Gonzales has coached five all-Americans and a staggering 96 all-conference selections by the Lone Star Conference.
Javelina baseball has found tremendous success over Gonzales's tenure, posting winning seasons in 13 of his 17 seasons. Texas A&M-Kingsville has also made appearances in 14 LSC conference tournaments, including 13 straight appearances from 2010-2023, and claimed his first conference tournament championship in 2013. The Javelinas have also qualified for six NCAA Division II regionals during his tenure.
But perhaps his crowning achievement came in 2018, when the Javelinas took home the South-Central regional crown to qualify for the NCAA Division II College World Series for the first time in program history.
Gonzales began his coaching career at the University of Louisiana Lafayette in 1994 before becoming an assistant coach at Arkansas State (1995-1996). After a brief stint at Wharton Junior College (1997), Gonzales returned to UL Lafayette as an assistant coach through the 2002 season. During that time the Ragin’ Cajuns hosted their first NCAA Regional Tournament, advanced to the NCAA College World Series and won a pair of regional championships.
He then joined the Atlanta Braves organization in 2003 before becoming head coach at Skidmore-Tynan High School. After three years at Skidmore-Tynan, Gonzales served as an assistant coach at McNeese State in 2008 before joining the Javelinas.
Gonzales received his associate’s degree from Blinn College in 1991, his bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in 1994 and his master’s degree from Arkansas State in 1996.
Gonzales and his wife Courtney have three daughters, twins Roy Grace and Dale Rose and Stevie Marie.
