Brittany Mason joined Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 2014, becoming the first assistant women’s basketball coach under new head coach Wade Scott.

Mason joined the Javelinas coaching staff after a season as the director of operations at the University of Houston.

Mason served as a graduate assistant with the Cougars during the 2011-12 season. In 2012-13, Mason was the video coordinator, where she handled preparation for practices, scouting reports, game editing for scouting and postgame editing.

She joined the Cougars’ coaching staff following a stellar four-year career as a forward on the squad.

As a senior, Mason played an integral role in helping lead the Cougars to a memorable and record-breaking season. Houston posted a 26-6 overall record and claimed a perfect 16-0 mark en route to making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005.

Mason, known for her stingy defense, averaged a career-high 5.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game as a senior for career averages of 4.0 points and 4.3 boards per contest.

The LaPorte, Texas native played in 119 career games, which ranks eighth in school history, with 70 starts. Mason also places ninth in the Houston record book in minutes played (2,578).

Mason posted a career game in arguably the most memorable contest in program history when the Cougars came back from a six-point deficit with 27 seconds remaining to top SMU and improve to 10-0 in C-USA play on Jan. 31, 2011.

Mason, who scored a career-high 14 points and drilled five field goals, including two 3-pointers, knocked down two free-throws to give the Cougars the go-ahead points over the Mustangs with only 12 seconds remaining.

Mason graduated from Houston in August 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in health and followed up with a master’s of education with an emphasis in sports and fitness administration.
