Lewis is entering his third year with the Javelina softball program.
In 2019, Lewis helped guide a Javelina squad that set school records for wins in a season (52), win percentage (.839) and longest win streak (19). They compiled a record of 14-4 against ranked teams, including a sweep of No. 2 A&M-Commerce in March. Lewis worked with a Javelina offense that set new program marks for runs scored in a season (343), total bases (768) and on-base percentage (.387).
TAMUK won the LSC Championship in the regular season and the LSC Tournament Championship in the same season for the first time ever before also capturing the South Central Regional Title and earned TAMUK's first ever trip to the College World Series, where they won four games before finishing as the National Runner-Up. Lewis and his fellow coaches were named the All-South Central Regional Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
He came to Kingsville from Tucson, Arizona where he spent the last nine years as a firefighter and a private instructor. Lewis was also a camp coach for University of Arizona head softball coach Mike Candrea for the three years before coming to TAMUK. His college coaching experience also includes three baseball seasons at Central Arizona College.
Lewis brings with him leadership experience and in fact wrote a leadership book for firefighters called Firefighter Self Rescue: The Evolution of Service. He also founded a nonprofit organization in the autism community called Firefighters vs Autism. The nonprofit raised money for rescue swim lessons for kids on the autism spectrum, pool fences for autism families, and provided autism awareness trainings for first responders.
As a student-athlete, Justin played two years at Central Arizona College and then transferred to University of Louisiana-Monroe, where he was an All-Conference performer.
He was born and raised in Tucson, Ariz. and is married to Amy. They have two children, Jack and Lucy.
