Ryan Dall is entering his 17th season as the Head Coach of both the Texas A&M University - Kingsville men's and women's Track & Field and Cross Country programs after being hired ahead of the 2009 season. Most recently, his 2025 men's team placed sixth at Outdoor Nationals and produced an individual National Champion in the shot put. Both outdoor teams combined to produce 16 All-Americans, including 10 First-Team All-Americans.
Dall has led the programs to historic success, highlights by, among many other accomplishments, leading the men's T&F team to the 2018 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships, picking up the USTFCCCA National Men's Outdoor Coach of the Year award in the process. He has been named the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year three times, in 2010, 2011, and 2014, and has lead the men's outdoor team to LSC titles in 2014 and 2016. During the indoor season, Dall was recognized as the LSC Men's T&F COTY twice, in 2013 and 2016, and the LSC women's T&F COTY once, sharing the award in 2025. Dall has coached countless athletes to All-American status in his time at the helm of the program, including 16 individual National Champions.
Dall, a 1999 University of Miami graduate, had extensive experience at the NCAA Division I level serving as an assistant coach at Duke for five years and at Florida International University for four years. Prior to his coaching career, he was the 1995 Big East Conference indoor and outdoor pole vault champion and finished in fourth place in the 1999 Big East decathlon.
At Duke, Dall was responsible for the coaching and recruiting of male and female sprinters, hurdlers, pole vaulters, and multi-event athletes. He was charged with the set-up of the Asics Duke Invitational Track and Field Meet, a 70-plus school invitational. He coached his athletes to 14 school records, six All-ACC awards, three IC4A champions, 17 All-IC4A awards, one ECAC champion, and nine All-ECAC awards. He was the director of the Duke Pole Vault Camp.
During his time at FIU, Dall coached and recruited pole vaulters, hurdlers, throwers, high jumpers, and multi-event athletes. He worked with two All-Americans in the high jump and javelin, an NCAA Championship qualifier in the 60-meter hurdles, four conference champions, and over 20 all-conference performers. He also worked with the cross country team.
Dall is a member of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the National Pole Vault Coaches Association, and the IC4A Coaches Association. He is Level Two USATF certified in sprints and hurdles.
Season-by-Season Recap
2025 Outdoor
The 2025 outdoor season saw Dall's squad produce 16 All-Americans, as the men's team placed sixth in the nation with just 10 athletes competing. Among many history-making performances was Ronald Grueso Mosquera, who finished as the National Runner-Up in the men's discus before becoming the National Champion of the shot put less than 24 hours later. Thomas Nieto cleared a school, and Colombian, record-breaking 5.52m in the men's pole vault, finishing as the National Runner-Up in the event. Additionally, the men's 4x400m relay team of Tony Benitez, Michael Samihamba, Taylor Chaney, and Sterling Riles ran 3:05.57 at Nationals, smashing their own school record and coming in third in the event.
The women's team was led at Nationals by Jazmin Ray, who broke her own school record with a 12.82m triple jump, placing sixth in the event and finishing as a First Team All-American.
At the Conference meet, both teams finished in third place, and produced 23 All-Confernce Athletes, seven Third-Team, eight Second-Team, and eight First-Team. They were led by five LSC gold-medal-winning performances, (four individuals and a relay). Grueso Mosquera made up two of them, winning both the weight throw and the shot put. Madison Alegria won the women's high jump, while Nieto took home gold in the men's pole vault. The record-breaking crew of Cynai Christopher, Vitiana Robert, Sakara Wade, and Oneika Brissett, won the women's 4x400m relay. Ray was also named the LSC Women's Outdoor T&F Academic Athlete of the Year, and joined Robert on the All-LSC Academic Team.
2021 Outdoor
The 2021 campaign saw Dall’s squads place multiple All-Americans on the men’s side including the 4x400m relay team comprised of Sterling Riles, Taylor Chaney, Johnathon Harper, and Johnny Davila that received second-team honors for a tenth-place finish at the national meet while Harper recorded his third first-team accolade in the decathlon posting 7,165 points and claiming bronze. Additionally, Jordan Wilson landed a jump of 7.36m (24-1.75) to place ninth in the long jump and secure a position as a Second=Team All -American. The men’s team picked up six points at the national meet, good for 36th place.
For the women. Gertrudis Balli was the lone qualifier for the National Championships, and she performed well capturing her first career honor as a Second-Team All-American in the discus.
Regionally, three women and seven men were announced on the USTFCCCA All-Region team with Harper, Wilson, and the men’s 4x400m relay squad headlining the list. Other honors for the men included Jorge Rios in the hammer throw, Marco Arevalo, and D.J. Delancey in the shot put, while the women’s honorees included Balli as well as Veronica Garcia in the shot put and Taylor Roberson in the 200m.
At the league meet 11 members were named to the All-Lone Star Conference Squad with Rios gathering first-team honors, while Chaney, Harper, and Kabren Wills made second-team for the men, and Balli, Roberson, and Jezell Shows picked up the accolade for the women. On the third-team, Wilson was joined by Riles, Davila, and Dyer with Delancey and Dean Wallace making their way onto the LSC All-Academic team.
The men’s team placed fourth at the conference meet gathering 90.5 points and the women seventh with a score of 36.
Through the 2021 season records fell in both the men’s hammer throw and women’s shot put with Rios tossing the hammer 196-10 fin the hammer and Balli reaching 165-11 in the discus. The campaign also featured Harper receiving the 2020-2021 Gil E. Steinke Award.
2021 Indoor
Indoors the pair of Johnathon Harper and Ayman Zahafi make a trip to the national meet with both earning first-team All-America status as Harper snatched silver in Birmingham, Ala., boasting a 5,525 score in the heptathlon. Zahafi meanwhile claimed sixth in the 800m with a time of 1:49.98. Despite only sending two into the indoor champions Dall’s squad placed 22nd with 11 points.
Additionally, Harper was named LSC Outstanding Male Field Athlete with 16 other Javelinas earning All-LSC honors for their performance in Lubbock, Texas. Zahafi joined Harper on the first-team along with Taylor Chaney and Marco Arevalo, whom both claimed individual conference titles.
On the women’s list, Kimberly Ortolon and Taylor Roberson made the second-team, with Ortolon tying the conference record and snapping the program record in the pole vault. Roberson handed the Javs eight points thanks to a pair of top finishes in the 60m and 200 m events.
Ortolon and D.J. Delancy both received distinction as LSC All-Academic selections.
The women placed sixth at the conference meet scoring 49 points, while the men took home third earning 109.5 points across two days of competition.
2020 Outdoor
The season did not occur due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
2020 Indoor
Despite no national meet occurring in the 2020 indoor season due to the COVID-19 pandemic Johnathon Harper and De’Stini Henderson were named first-team All-America for meeting qualification standards with Harper doing so in the heptathlon and Henderson in the 60m dash, with Henderson going on to win the 2019-20 Gil E. Steinke Award.
At the conference meet, four Javelinas made the all-conference team with Dean Wallace leading the way on the first-team after claiming the league's heptathlon title. Harper made the conference's second-team along with Henderson and Kimberly Ortolon who placed second in the pole vault at 3.55m (11-7.75).
Academically, D.J. Delancy and Sophie Morrow received special recognition from the league office for their performance in the classroom.
At the conference meet, the men placed fifth at 48.5 and the women seventh at 29.
2019 Outdoor
This season saw Dall and the TAMUK track and field program host the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships where Racheal Somoye was crowned national champion in the hammer throw with her final attempt as a Blue and Gold athlete after joining the team as a walk-on in 2014.
Additionally, the men performed well in their title defense with six receiving All-America status including Richard Cervantes who closed out his career as the national runner-up in the discus and the bronze medalist in the shot put. Other top performers included Ayman Zahafi who collected a silver medal in the 800, William Watson in the 110m hurdles, Dyshon Vaughn in the long jump, Johnathon Harper in the decathlon, and Viatly Zhgun in the javelin.
The men’s team totaled 34 points and collected a sixth-place finish while the women took 24th with 10 points courtesy of Somoye.
11 earned All-Region status with Valentin Charles, and Jorge Rios making the cut as well as those who were named All-Americans.
At the conference level, Zahafi earned recognition as the LSC Male Track Athlete of the Year while thirteen others made all-conference with highlights from the list including Harper, Cervantes, Somoye, Zahafi, and Brigance all winning their respective events.
Somoye’s final accolade of the 2019 season saw her named 2019 Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year.
Both the men and women finished fourth overall at the conference meet.
2019 Indoor
Dall had five student-athletes achieve USTFCCCA All-American status in the 2019 indoor season with Valentin Charles headlining the list after winning a national championship in the heptathlon posting 5,942 points in the championship meet. Harper joined Charles on the heptathlon podium placing fifth while Ayman Zahafi collected bronze in the 800m.
For the women, Racheal Somoye snapped the school and conference record in the weight throw at the national meet placing sixth with LaGae Brigance closing her indoor career out by placing third in the high jump.
Overall, the Javelina women finished 24th with 8.5 total points, while the men's 13th-place finish came courtesy of 20 points.
Charles was named LSC Male Indoor Field Athlete of the Year as a result of tallying the fourth-highest heptathlon score in D-II history at the Indoor Championships and represented the third student-athlete coached by Dall to earn the honor. Additionally, the Frenchman was named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week twice throughout the season.
Seven were named to both the USTFCCCA All-Region and All-Conference teams indoors with Cervantes, Somoye, Brigance, Zahafi, and Charles making the LSC’s first-team while Jorge Rios made the second-team and Andrew Perez the third team.
Dall’s women’s team finished seventh at the league meet with 30 points, while the men managed a fourth-place finish totaling a score of 84.5.
2018 Outdoor
The season saw Dall take home the USTFCCCA National Men's Outdoor Coach of the Year award while leading the Javelinas to a Men's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field team title. The first national team title in program history.
The men’s team posted 65 points as they claimed the top spot in a field of 113 total teams, besting second-place Ashland by 14 points. The women placed 49th with a score of 4.25.
Additionally, 13 individuals finished the outdoor season with All-America Honors, while Charles Greaves was awarded Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year after putting 20.5 points up in four scheduled events at the national championship.
Individual champions in the meet include Greaves in the triple jump and the 4x100 meter relay where Deon Hope, Todd Nicholas, and Javier Lopez joined him atop the podium. Lopez also claimed gold in the 110m hurdles, and Richard Cervantes in the shot put.
Two relay teams collected the Accusplit Relay Award for posting the top times of the season including the previously mentioned 4x100m crew, as well as the sprint medley team consisting of Lopez, Hope, Nicholas, and Robert Downs.
At the regional level, 18 separate student-athletes earned 24 USTFCCCA All-Region honors with Greaves, Cervantes, Lopez, and Kiandria Taylor earning the nod in multiple events.
Cervantes also was named DII National Men's Athlete of the Week after shattering the school records in both the shot put and discus at the 91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. In total five school records were snapped in the outdoor season including Johnathon Harpers' 7044-point performance in the decathlon, Kenny Zamarono in the hammer throw (188-06), Racheal Somoye in the hammer throw (195-08), and Robert Downs in the 800m (1:48.68).
The Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships saw Cervantes win the Oscar Strahan Award while also earning Outstanding Male Field Athletes of the year as well as First-Team All-LSC recognition, with 17 other Javelinas landing on the all-conference list. Cervantes also collected two LSC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week awards, with Lopez, Greaves, and Andrew Perez also earning conference athlete of the week honors.
The men and women’s teams both finished fourth, as the men earned 145 points, and the women 110, as the Hogs posted 9 individual champions.
2018 Indoor
Indoors’ Dall oversaw the men finish 19th at 12 points, and the women 43rd with a score of four. A trio of student-athletes were named first-team All-Americans including Richard Cervantes who claimed bronze in the shot put and Robert Downs who placed third in the 800m. Rounding out the trio Racheal Somoye was the lone female honoree with a fifth-place finish in the weight throw.
Cervantes also received conference recognition as the Lone Star Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Year with seven other student-athletes making all-conference teams including Charles Greaves, Javier Lopez, and Robert Downs who made the first-team. LSC Champions included Greaves, Cervantes, Downs, and Lopez. Second-team honorees included Plaserae Johnson as well as Irena Almarcha-Conejero while Jonathon Harper and Jorge Rios landed on the third-team.
2017
Nationally, the Javelinas performed well under Dall with Kiana Martinez being named a finalist for NCAA Women of the Year as the women’s 4x100m relay squad placed third at the National Outdoor Championships. 14 members of his squad earned all-conference recognition, while six captured the LSC title.
During 2017, 14 members of Dall's squad earned all-conference recognition and the Javelinas captured six Lone Star Conference Championships. At the NCAA Championships, TAMUK's women's 4 X 100 relay team placed third to earn All-American honors. Dall also saw five of his student-athletes chosen for the LSC All-Academic Team and three selected for the CoSIDA All-Academic squad.
2016
Dall led the men's track and field team to a 2016 LSC Championship and won his third LSC Men's Track & Field Coach of the Year award since joining the Blue and Gold.
In 2016, Dall had total of 14 student-athletes named to the LSC All-Conference Team for men and women and coached Lutalo Boyce to an Outstanding Male Field Athlete award. On the national level, Dall had 12 All-American athletes. Jordan Yamoah claimed his second Outdoor National Championship in the Men's Pole Vault, while Britteny Holcombe, Kaina Martinez, Teandria Taylor and Plaserae Johnson became the first Outdoor National Champions in the Women's 4x100-meter Relay.
2011
Dall was named the LSC Men’s Track & Field Coach of the Year for 2011 after leading the men to a third place finish at the conference championships hosted by Tarleton State. The team was ranked in the top 25 for the entire season and reached a high of #10 on two occasions. At the national meet, the team picked up 13 points to finish in 21st. Jonathan Woodson was a three-time All-America during the season earning one indoors and two outdoors. Dall had six men earned all-conference honors and seven earn all-region honors during the outdoor season. Kiya Dandena broke his own records in the indoor 3,000 and 5,000 meters while Woodson set the school record in the indoor 200 meters.
Samantha Alvarez who finished as the national runner-up in the high jump turned in the highlight of the 2011 season. Her performance gave the Javelinas a tie for the most points at the national meet by any LSC program. Dall had a pair of student-athletes earned Academic All-District and LSC All-Academic Team honors.
2010
Dall’s team showed dramatic improvement in 2010 and he was rewarded by being named the LSC Men’s Track & Field Coach of the Year. The men’s team was ranked in the top 25 for most of the season and reached #15 heading into the National Championships. They had five athletes earn All-America recognition during the outdoor season and one during the indoor season.
The men and women each finished in fourth place at the LSC Championships hosted by Angelo State in 2010. Dall had three individuals win conference titles and five named to the all-conference squad. Two other individuals took LSC All-Academic honors. During the indoor season Dandena set school records in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters while C.J. Griggs set the school record in the triple jump.
2009
In his first year at the helm, Dall had a number of athletes set personal records. Distance runner Erica Alvarado set the school record in the indoor 5,000 meters. He had two individuals earn all-conference honors.
