About the NCAA Division-II Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The 2019 NCAA Division-II Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at Javelina Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University Kingsville in historic Kingsville, Texas. The championship format will feature both individual and team championships held over three days of competition.

Day one starts with the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon, with a handful of preliminary races and final throwing competitions throughout the course of the day, and will come to a close with the men's and women's 10,000 meter run finals. Day two will start with the conclusion of the decathlon and heptathlon, with the preliminary 4x400 meter relay races bringing the day to an end.

The final day of competition will feature a slew of final races and throws, with the women's javelin opening the day and the team champions crowned immediately following the conclusion of the men's 4x400 meter relay finals.

Javelina Stadium is located on the north end of campus at Texas A&M-Kingsville and has been the home of the Javelina football and track & field teams since its construction in 1952. With the ability to seat 12,500 screaming fans, the Javelinas have consistently featured attendance numbers among the highest in the NAIA and NCAA Division-II.

The facility has hosted four NAIA National Championships in 1969, 1974, 1975 and 1976, with the largest crowd on record totaling over 18,500 coming in the 1977 football season. Numerous high school football games are also played at the facility, as H.M. King High School and Santa Gertrudis Academy consider Javelina Stadium home.

Athletes who have competed for the Javelina football and track & field teams include Pro Football Hall of Fame members Darrell Green, John Randle and Gene Upshaw, numerous Olympians, the current USA and World High Jump Champion Jeron Robinson, and several NCAA champions of years' past, including Jordan Yamoah (pole vault), C.J. Griggs (triple jump), Roberto Garza (shot put), Javier Lopez (110 meter hurdles), Patricia Rivers (200 meter dash) and LaShawndra Ratcliff (60 meters).

The late George H.W. Bush, 41st President of the United States, spoke at a University graduation ceremony in May of 1990 at Javelina Stadium, while the U.S. Navy Blue Angels perform at Kingsville Naval Air Station every other year and address a group of secondary school students from the area at the stadium.

A new video board was installed prior to the start of the 2018 football season. The video on the screen displays at a 1920x1080 resolution and features instant replay capability.

As of January 2019, the track around Javelina Stadium was resurfaced in preparation for the 2019 and 2020 NCAA Division-II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The venue is also home to the Cactus Cup, the annual collegiate outdoor track & field competition hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville, and the UIL Region IV 2A/4A Track & Field Championships.

The facility was also home to the Cactus Bowl from 2001-11, an NCAA Division-II All-Star game for seniors televised live each January.

Please note that no pets are allowed at Javelina Stadium and that visitors are not allowed to have food, gum or sunflower seeds on the surface of the facility.
