Javelinas to make playoff push as they take on Texas A&M International

TAMUK takes momentum into matchup with Dustdevils as Mia Rivers nears history again

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville Women's Basketball Team prepares for the second matchup between the Javelinas and Dustdevils as Texas A&M International comes to the Steinke Physical Education Center for the last home matchup of the season.

The Javelinas (13-15, 9-12 LSC) are heading into Thursdays matchup after two key road victories taking down the Midwestern State Mustangs 64-52 and the Cameron Aggies 64-61. The road trip would not only keep the Javelinas postseason hopes alive but would further cement and confirm the legend that is Mia Rivers. The Javelinas outshot their opponent in almost every category vs MSU getting the better of them in FG% 44.2% to 36.7%, 3PT% 35.0% to 13.3%, and FT% 64.7% to 50.0% proving too much offensively for the Mustangs. The Javelinas would show another side to the Cameron Aggies as they would not show their offensive weapons this game, but instead their defense, outrebounding the aggies 28-24 as well as out blocking (2-0), and out stealing (9-4) their opposition.

Rivers would accrue 9 assists on the trip returning to the Steinke Physical Education Center tied heading into their last home matchup for Assists in a season, a record set in the 1999-2000 season that she is on track to breaking making history not once but twice for the Javelinas. This also happens to be a crucial game for postseason births as the Javelinas are in a must win situation, unfortunately it's not a "win and you're in" situation, as the Javelinas do need some help from other matchups on the day, but the road to the postseason starts with a big win at home for the final matchup in the SPEC on the year 2023-2024.

Texas A&M International (23-6, 15-6 LSC) comes into Thursday coming off of a road trip as well, facing the same foes as the Javelinas and having the same amount of luck winning both. They come to the SPEC also currently on a two-game winning streak, offensively out matching the Mustangs in FG% (45.2%-44.4%) and 3PT% (31.8%-20.0%). They were also able to outmatch the Aggies in the same categories FG% (40.3%-37.1%) and 3PT% (33.3%-17.6%) proving their offensive prowess. They however were outrebounded by the Aggies 31-38 in the first game of their road trip where the defensive stats were close throughout.

The Javelinas and Dustdevils have met 31 times dating back to the 2007-08 season. The all-time record is currently held by the Javelinas at 17 games to 14.
