Javelinas hit the road for matchups against OC and UAFS

The Javelinas look to build upon a five-game winning streak

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team carries a five-game winning streak into a pair of Eastern Division Lone Star Conference matchups as they visit Oklahoma Christian on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. inside the Payne Athletic Center before heading to Fort Smith, Arkansas for a Saturday clash against UAFS inside Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center at 1 p.m.
Ā
The Javelinas (12-8, 9-5 LSC) enter the weekend after collecting a pair of victories over St. Edward's and UAFS that saw juniorĀ Georgia OhiaeriĀ gather LSC Defensive Player of the Week honors.Ā
Ā
Ohiaeri anchored a defense that kept opponents under 50 PPG for the past five contests, while the Rattlers and Hilltoppers averaged 40.5 PPG with a 25.8 FG%, including 17.1% from beyond the arc. Additionally, Ohiaeri and sophomoreĀ Mia RiversĀ recorded double-doubles against SEU, marking the first time since Nov. 8, 2017, that multiple Javelinas have accomplished the feat in a single game.Ā
Ā
The Eagles (3-16, 3-12 LSC) enter on a four-game skid but did overcome TAMUK 67-60 earlier in the season. Nakia Cuilom and Olivia Travis led the way in the victory, with Ciulom scoring 17 and Travis 13 with eight rebounds.Ā
Ā
On the season, Brooklyn Bain has been dominant for OC, sitting second on the LSC double-double leader board with seven while averaging 14.4 PPG and 8.4 RPG, both team-highs.Ā
Ā
The Lions (6-15, 4-11 LSC) fell twice last week to TWU and UT Tyler and are looking to bounce back at Gayle Kaundart Arena. UAFS ranks third in the LSC with a 32.7 3P%, as Hanna Boyett and Riley Haynes sit in the top three individually. The Javelinas, meanwhile, are the league's best three-point defenders, holding opponents to a 23.8 3P%Ā
Ā
AaliyahĀ Prince provides the bulk of the scoring for the Lions, averaging 14.3 PPG and 5.0 RPG, withĀ Haynes and BoyettĀ not far behind, as Haynes manages 8.9 PPG and BoyettĀ 8.8 PPG.Ā
