KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team reaches day three of the Division II CCA Tip Off Tournament, where they will matchup against the #2 ranked Minnesota State-Mankato Mustangs.
The Javelinas (0-2, 0-0 LSC) are heading into Sunday's matchup after a nailbiting 58-60 loss to the Tampa Spartans, where the Javelinas surged offensively shooting a 33.9% from the field and a 44.8% from beyond the arc. The Blue and Gold will try to wrap up this season opening tournament with a win as last time out there were aided by the solid play of Sophomore
Shelby Ray, who had an impressive line with 18 points 4 rebounds and a 71.4% shooting percentage from beyond the arc. Junior
Mia Rivers also leaving her mark on the matchup with 13 points, 9 assists, and 9 rebounds on the cusp of a triple double.
The Mustangs come into the game second in the nation in division two (According to the WBCA Preseason Rankings Coaches Poll) ending the season last year in the number four spot for the central region.
MSU-Mankato (1-1, 0-0 NSIC) comes into Saturday off a 71-76 loss at the hands of No. 24 ranked LSC opponent Texas Women's University. In the loss MSUM shot 38.2% from the field as opposed to TWU's 41.7%.
The Javelinas and Mustangs have only met 1 time before Sunday, which was during the 2021-22 season when both squads met up in San Antonio for the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic. This saw the Mustangs coming out on top 78-59, which puts the Javs at an 0-1 all time record.
